In this role, you'll:


Quality Audit Technical Inspector (QATI) – Expression of Interest for temporary opportunities up to 24 months in the Newcastle Region, working on Sydney’ largest train upgrade project. This position is an RC5 classification and will be shift work.

An exciting opportunity exists to join a talent pool supporting an established rail project in the Newcastle region. We are seeking qualified and motivated candidates to ensure that assets are tested, commissioned, and meet the project’s technical, quality, and safety requirements, as well as those set by the Independent Regulator.

This is an excellent opportunity to refine your skills, while gaining valuable exposure to the priorities, operations and standards of Sydney Trains, which could be invaluable for your career trajectory within the rail industry.


• Facilitate development and approval of project specific technical, quality, safety and environmental requirements, thereby ensuring compliance with all relevant environmental and safety and quality standards.


• Conduct quality audits and inspections and report on issues, including time and production deadlines, in a timely manner.


• Undertake investigations, survey and witness static and dynamic testing, including functional testing of electrical systems, information technology systems and communications systems.


• Analyse problems and provide input into recommendations on modifications or redesign to improve the operation and performance of systems.


• Report resultant issues in order to monitor that the final quality of the rolling stock complies with the configuration baseline and can operate safely on the rail network.


• Prepare and implement monthly reporting, ensuring reporting mechanisms are linked to on-time, on budget delivery and project management methodology.


• Execute safety responsibilities, authorities and accountabilities consistent with Sydney Trains safety management system requirements which are defined in SMS document number SMS-02-RG-3058.

About you


You have electrical, mechanical, fabrication (including welding and boiler making), car building trade qualification and experience in rolling stock manufacture or other heavy vehicle or manufacturing environment as well as being an accomplished fault finder, strong communicator and lateral thinker.


You possess experience overseeing static and dynamic testing, including functional testing of electrical, mechanical, IT, and communication systems within rolling stock assets.

You possess strong understanding of national and international rail regulations, ensuring adherence to transport safety guidelines, Independent Regulatory requirements, and internal quality standards.


You have proven ability to organise and prioritise tasks, be flexible and resourceful with a high degree of initiative.


You can work independently and collaboratively to solve problems and complete tasks effectively.
