About the role: This is an exciting opportunity to join our innovative and welcoming law team at the City of Portsmouth College as part of the wider Humanities department. As a Teacher of Law, the ideal candidate will be teaching the OCR specification of Law to our learners. This includes units such as the English Legal System, Law Making, Criminal, Tort and Contract Law and the Nature of Law. Teaching Law allows candidates to use contemporary examples to bring their teaching to life through topical discussions. The successful candidate will be able to use our innovative courtroom facility to enhance their teaching and learning and work with our partner institutions to inspire and support learners with their next steps. We welcome applications from candidates with teaching experience and those wishing to get into teaching, with relevant industry experience within the law profession. The anticipated start date for the role is September 2026.
Key Responsibilities:
- To teach the college programme to students daily and provide high quality learning opportunities to them.
- To provide flexible assessment opportunities and closely plan, monitor, track and record student retention, achievement, and success.
- To contribute to the development and delivery of high quality, relevant curriculum, and programmes.
- Curriculum Development responsibilities include actively contributing to the development of new programmes and producing annual schemes of work.
- Plan and deliver effective learning programmes for diverse groups or individuals in a safe and inclusive environment.
- Identify and address Mathematics and English needs of learners and work creatively to overcome individual barriers to learning.
- Ensure compliance with Quality standards set by the College and/or Awarding Bodies.
To be successful in this role, below is what we would need from you:
- Degree or equivalent qualification in Law.
- Industry experience in Law
- Teaching Qualification or willing to work towards
- Ability to meet targets within set timescales
- Ability to work well in teams but also to work independently, with the minimum of supervision
