Salary: £33,980.34 - £36,035.26 Full Time Equivalent per annum

About the role:

The Cyber Security Specialist will work as part of a team to deliver high quality customer support. The Cyber Security Specialist will be expected to troubleshoot and resolve issues, to provide expertise to help with the planning and development of IT systems, support 1st line engineers and upscale and manage issues with 3rd line engineers and 3rd parties. Team working and communications within an overall approach that puts staff and students first will be of key importance.

Specialist Duties:

  • Ensure that all college devices are patched and updated as required, including software and firmware patching.
  • Ensure that all assets are stored and patched with N Central.
  • During meetings represent the cyber security interests of the college in The Change Advisory Board.
  • Secure the LAN to prevent unauthorised devices from accessing the network.
  • Update and run the Cyber Security calendar for the college.
  • Join the JISC Cyber Security Community and take part in webinars etc.
  • Ensure that skills are kept up to date.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver high quality customer support in the troubleshooting and resolution of technical support issues.
  • Providing expertise to support the planning and development of IT.
  • Supporting 1st line teams.
  • Update the ticketing system, ensuring the call has been logged and all notes, progress and required actions have been input promptly and accurately.
  • Escalating and managing issues with 3rd line and 3rd parties.
  • Assisting in projects as required.
  • Resolving and assisting with general IT Support tickets.
  • Provide: Desktop Support, Hardware Repairs, Software Installation as required.
  • Support hardware refreshes.
  • Where required, represent the college and or IT Team in meetings / presentations / Conferences.
  • Provide subject matter expertise in Cyber Security.
  • Ensure that skills and knowledge are maintained and take responsibility for training others.
  • Continuously improve knowledge and understanding across the various software and hardware technologies supported by the team.
  • Maintain a strong customer focus at all times.

Hold the responsibility for:

  • Patching.
  • The Cyber Security Risk Register.
  • Firewall Rules.
  • Microsoft End Point Protection.
  • Microsoft Defender Vulnerability Management.
  • Microsoft secure score.
  • Phishing simulation and staff training with both Cyber Security and information governance.
  • Data Loss Protection.
  • Testing and identifying network and system vulnerabilities.
  • Security features within M365 and other key college software and hardware.
  • Any other area of cyber security as required.

To be successful in this role:

  • Excellent experience of working in a support environment and understanding customer needs.
  • Qualification or Industry experience of working within Cyber Security.
  • Good level of understanding of Hardware, Virtualisation, Active Directory and Software.
  • Good level of understanding of Microsoft Active Directory including Azure AD.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, maintaining an approachable demeanour to aid a positive first impression and rapport building.
  • Microsoft Intune & Auto Pilot Experience is desirable but not essential.
  • Proficiency with a range of IT systems and software, including knowledge of operating systems, network fundamentals and common office applications.
