About the role: The Construction Department is a dynamic and highly successful area within City of Portsmouth College, delivering a range of vocational qualifications in Carpentry and Joinery. We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and skilled Lecturer in Carpentry and Joinery to join our team. The successful candidate will deliver high‑quality teaching, learning and assessment across our Carpentry and Joinery programmes, helping to equip learners with the practical skills, knowledge, and industry standards required for success in the trade.
Key Responsibilities:
- Mentor, guide and assess Carpentry & Joinery students and apprentices, ensuring they develop and evidence the skills, knowledge and behaviours required for successful completion of their apprenticeship.
- Deliver high‑quality teaching and training across a range of programmes, providing flexible learning opportunities that meet the needs of individuals and groups in line with College priorities.
- Work collaboratively with employers to ensure apprentices/students meet both workplace expectations and apprenticeship standard requirements.
- Monitor, track and accurately record student progress, supporting strong retention, achievement and overall success.
- Contribute to curriculum development by supporting new programme design and producing schemes of work, year plans and training plans.
- Maintain effective communication and working relationships with internal colleagues and external partners to enhance the learner experience.
- Support wider College activities, including open evenings, employer events and apprentice sign‑up processes.
To be successful in this role, below is what we would need from you:
- Assessor Award or willingness to work towards
- Recent industry experience in Carpentry and Joinery
- Teaching Qualification or willing to work towards
- Ability to meet targets within set timescales
- Ability to work well in teams but also to work independently, with the minimum of supervision
