Position Summary
Join our team as a Public Works Mechanic, where you'll take on a diverse range of maintenance and repair responsibilities. In this role, you will perform preventative maintenance and repairs on a variety of vehicles and equipment, including cars, buses, dump trucks, tractors, loaders, graders, snow removal equipment, construction machinery, and small engines. Your expertise will ensure the safe and efficient operation of our fleet, supporting essential public works services.
Qualifications and Other Pertinent Details:
- Experience repairing various equipment, including:
- Buses
- Heavy-duty trucks and equipment
- Light-duty vehicles
- Welding and body repair experience is beneficial.
- Possess strong interpersonal and communication skills; able to work collaboratively with others.
- Capable of completing work forms, preparing simple written reports, and using basic computer applications.
- Must supply personal hand tools.
- Available to work all shifts (days, evenings, and weekends)
- Able to meet the physical demands of the position.
Education
- Hold a current Truck and Coach Service Technician Certificate (310T)
- Preferred certifications: Automotive Service Technician or other related.
- Hold a valid Class G driver’s license (Class D with Z endorsement is an asset)
Compensation
Classification for this position with CUPE L504: PW Mechanic
Hourly Rate: $43.58 per hour
Note: A shift premium will also be applied to eligible shifts. Also includes a competitive comprehensive benefit package with 100% Employer paid premium, in addition to a defined benefit Pension Plan through OMERS and a $600 tool allowance payable each calendar year.
Hours of Work and Location
Please note: This position follows a rotating shift schedule in accordance with the Collective Agreement with CUPE 504. The successful candidate will begin with approximately three (3) months of training on day shifts. Following the training period, the schedule will be afternoon shifts (2:00 p.m. – 12:00 a.m., Monday to Thursday), followed by approximately three (3) months of night shifts (9:00 p.m. – 7:00 a.m). After this they will resume afternoon shift.
