The Engineering Design / Construction Inspection Technologist I contributes to the planning, delivery, and long-term sustainability of municipal infrastructure by providing technical support for engineering design, construction inspection, surveying, development review, and contract administration activities. The role supports the City's strategic objectives by helping ensure that transportation, water, wastewater, stormwater, and related infrastructure assets are designed, constructed, and documented in accordance with approved standards, contractual requirements, and regulatory obligations.

Through the application of engineering technology principles, field investigations, technical analysis, and project coordination, the position supports informed decision-making, protects municipal infrastructure investments, and contributes to the safe, reliable, and efficient delivery of infrastructure programs and services that meet the needs of a growing community.

The role serves as a technical resource to contractors, consultants, developers, utility providers, City staff, and members of the public by providing information, observations, recommendations, and project-related guidance within assigned areas of responsibility. While not responsible for direct staff supervision, the position influences project outcomes through collaboration, communication, and the consistent application of municipal engineering standards and practices.

The Engineering Design / Construction Inspection Technologist I supports positive working relationships among project stakeholders, assists in resolving technical issues identified through inspections and reviews, and contributes to effective service delivery by promoting accountability, compliance, and customer-focused outcomes throughout the design and construction process.

Required Qualifications

The successful candidate will hold a three (3) year College Diploma in Civil Engineering Technology or a related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and experience, along with a Certified Engineering Technologist (C.E.T.) designation. Must hold a valid Ontario Class G Driver’s Licence in good standing and be able to travel to field locations and construction sites as required. In addition, the successful candidate will have a minimum of four (4) years of progressively responsible experience in municipal engineering, civil construction, infrastructure inspection, surveying, engineering technology, or a related environment, demonstrating a strong understanding of engineering principles, construction practices, and municipal infrastructure.

Asset Qualifications

  • Experience conducting construction inspections and documenting compliance with engineering drawings, specification, standards, and contract requirements.
  • Experience preparing technical records, reports, quantity measurements, and project documentation.
  • Experience using GIS, municipal infrastructure databases, or engineering asset management systems.
