Job Description:

Performs skilled work involving general maintenance and repair of municipal buildings. Work involves duties which require the application of journey level mechanical skills as well as basic carpentry, plumbing, and electrical skills. Primary duties include maintenance and repair of heating and air conditioning systems, replacing and repairing plumbing and electrical fixtures, repairing carpet, and performing other general maintenance tasks. Work is performed under general supervision and is reviewed through periodic inspections, direct observation, and condition of facilities.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • General Maintenance Technician I: High School Diploma/G.E.D. Certificate and one (1) year experience in general building maintenance or one of the trades: Electrical, Heating and Air-Conditioning, or Plumbing; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Journey Level competency card in one of the following trades Electrical, Heating and Air-Conditioning, or Plumbing preferred. Valid Florida Driver's License required. Training in the maintenance and repair of heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning systems desired.
  • General Maintenance Technician II: High School Diploma/G.E.D. Certificate and three (3) years experience in general building maintenance or one of the trades; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Must possess Journey Level competency card in one of the following trades Electrical, Heating and Air-Conditioning, or Plumbing. Valid Florida Driver's License required. Training in the maintenance and repair of heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning systems desired.

Important: To be eligible to proceed forward in the application process, applicants must meet the minimum qualifications listed in the position description. If this posting indicates a degree is required, the following experience will apply in lieu of any degree as follows: Two (2) years of direct experience for an associate degree; Four (4) years of direct experience for a bachelor's degree; Six (6) years of direct experience for a master's degree; Nine (9) years of direct experience for a doctoral degree.
