About the Role

The People Business Partner acts as a trusted advisor to leaders, supporting them to deliver on organisational, workforce, and cultural priorities. The role builds leader capability, drives proactive workforce planning, and ensures consistent application of HR frameworks, policies, and processes across the organisation. As part of the People, Culture and Safety (PCS) uplift, the People Business Partner plays a critical role in shifting HR from a transactional support function to a strategic partner that enables business outcomes, supports organisational change, and strengthens culture and engagement. This role plays a key part in delivering impactful outcomes for the community and supporting the strategic goals of the City of Melbourne.

What Your Experience Might Look Like

  • Demonstrated experience partnering with leaders to deliver strategic and operational HR solutions in a complex, unionised or regulated environment
  • Experience supporting leaders with performance management, development planning, conduct issues, and challenging conversations
  • Experience supporting organisational change processes including structural changes, redeployment, role redesign, and communication planning
  • Strong negotiation and conflict‑resolution skills with the ability to influence outcomes in a complex stakeholder environment
  • Ability to interpret workforce data, identify trends, and provide actionable insights to inform planning and decision‑making
