The ancient Chamberlain’s Court, based at Guildhall, has been responsible for administering the Freedom of the City, a historic fellowship that has underwritten the civic life of the City of London for several centuries. It remains busy and dynamic, serving a wide range of stakeholders from the London and international community. The Role
We are looking for a friendly, reliable Court Assistant to join our small, friendly office to support the work of our Court Ushers (Beadles) and our Clerks and Registrar by providing cover at busy periods and assisting with our administrative and commercial processes. It offers a rare opportunity to become involved in ceremonial activities and to work in a small, friendly office at the centre of City life and history.
What you will do
Duty will include supporting administrative tasks, managing databases, and assisting with commercial activities. You will be part of a small team, cover busy periods, and help with the Court’s ceremonies.
About you
- A strong communicator, able to interact with a wide range of individuals in a friendly, helpful and diplomatic manner
- Strong administrative skills with experience in a public sector, heritage, legal or membership organisation
- Skilled user of digital media and software, particularly databases and Windows Office software
- Can understand budgets and help support our commercial and retail enterprise
- Comfortable with public speaking and able to supervise and direct groups and individuals
- Has a level of fitness that enables working on feet for part of the day and undertaking moderate lifting
- Has an interest and enthusiasm for history and a willingness to learn about the City of London, its historic institutions and Livery Companies
Working hours and conditions
The role will generally involve two days a week, Wednesday and Thursday on site, but flexibility is required. Working days can be adjusted within weekdays. The role offers variety and good working conditions.

Salary
£15,232 – £16,860 per annum (actual salary for the hours)
