Salary: £43,148 – £48,202 per annum inclusive of all allowances
Contractual Hours: 37 hours per week
Basis: Full-Time, Permanent

Location: Constabulary office at Hampstead Heath, with regular patrols and working at Hampstead Heath, Highgate Wood, and Queen’s Park

Shift and Schedule: The post will work a 37-hour week on a rota, including weekends, bank holidays, and early and late shifts when scheduled. The rota is subject to change with reasonable notice.

Current working patterns are: 11:00am – 10:00pm from February to November, and 11:00am to 7:00pm in December and January, inclusive of a lunch break. Constables currently work on a 4-day on, 4-day off rota, but the rota will be reviewed in the near future.

This is an opportunity to serve and protect some of London’s most treasured open spaces, including Hampstead Heath, Highgate Wood, and Queen’s Park. As a Constable, you will uphold public safety, enforce byelaws, and support the preservation of Hampstead Heath, Highgate Wood, and Queen’s Park for the benefit of all who visit.

About Us

The City of London Corporation manages 11,000 acres (approximately 4,500 hectares) of land in and around London that is enjoyed by over 16 million visitors annually. Whilst there are small pockets of land within the Square Mile, the majority can be found elsewhere in London and the surrounding counties. The City Corporation acts as Trustee of 10 charities which, through their various objects, are responsible for the preservation in perpetuity of a large proportion of these award-winning open spaces.

The Role

As a Constable, you will play a vital role in maintaining safety, security, and public confidence across Hampstead Heath, Highgate Wood, and Queen’s Park. Operating on a rota basis, you will enforce byelaws, respond to emergencies, and provide a visible, professional presence through regular patrols. You will engage with the public, support event planning, and collaborate with internal teams and external partners to uphold standards and protect these cherished spaces. The role demands sound judgement, excellent communication skills, and a commitment to public service. You will be responsible for incident reporting, evidence gathering, and supporting legal proceedings where necessary. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to the preservation and enjoyment of some of London’s most iconic open spaces while delivering community engagement, education and enforcement.

The Ideal Candidate

The successful candidate will be a confident, proactive, and community-focused individual with a strong sense of public duty. You will have experience in a uniformed or enforcement role, with the ability to remain calm under pressure and respond effectively to a wide range of incidents. A sound understanding of relevant legislation, including byelaws and Police and Criminal Evidence Act, as well as the criminal justice system, is essential. You will demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage positively with the public and build strong working relationships with colleagues and partner agencies. A commitment to high standards of professionalism, integrity, and personal presentation is vital. You will be physically fit to fulfil the demands of the role, as well as comfortable working outdoors in all conditions. You will be capable of working both independently and as part of a team across a varied and dynamic environment.
