About the team:

Prevention Services sits within National Lead Force (NLF) as part of the Report Fraud reporting service. Report Fraud is primarily responsible for analysing and disseminating victim reports of Fraud and Cybercrime to the relevant police force for investigation, with the aim of determining the most appropriate 4P response (Pursue, Protect, Prevent and Prepare).

About the role:

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated individual with a keen interest in intelligence development and Fraud/Cyber investigation, to join the Reactive Disruptions Team. The team consists of a Detective Sergeant and both police officers and police staff investigators. The team work from referrals, Report Fraud complaints and the proactive identification of enablers with the aim of disrupting websites, email addresses, social media accounts and telephone numbers being used by offenders to facilitate fraud and cybercrime.

Responsibilities:

  • Disrupt fraud and cyber offenders who utilise technological enablers to carry out their offending, by gathering evidence to support requests to service providers and to justify the use of relevant legislation.
  • Use a variety of sources of information to proactively conduct open-source investigations into technological enablers used in fraud and cybercrime.
  • Work with Social Media companies and other online service providers to develop effective methods to achieve victim account services repatriation and develop other innovative ways of providing a preventative or protective service to victims of fraud and cybercrime.
  • Maintain personal responsibility for gathering, recording, storing, accessing and sharing of information in compliance with information security policy, procedures and codes of practice and legislation.

Essential Requirements:

  • A proven investigative background and a good knowledge of investigation practices, processes and techniques.
  • Experience of utilising a variety of open-source investigation techniques.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to communicate at all levels with both internal and external partners and stakeholders and to build relationships.
  • Must be self-motivated and enthusiastic with the ability to undertake a range of enquiries and to self-generate their own proactive work.
  • The ability to plan, prioritise and organize your own workload and develop new practices and ways of working.

This vacancy is open only to those who have the right to work in the UK. Also, due to this role requiring MV/SC level vetting, you need to have continuously resided in the UK for the last 5 years. This residency needs to be in the immediate 5 years prior to this application. If you do not meet this requirement, you are not eligible to apply for the role, due to nature of the vetting checks needed.

Applicants who fail to address the skills/knowledge/experience of the job description will not be considered. The closing date for applications is 30th September 2026 at 3pm. Following shortlisting, successful candidates will be invited to attend a competency-based interview, to be held week commencing 12th October 2026.
