Description of Department: City of London Police is the smallest home office force area in the country and plays a vital role in keeping the City of London diverse community safe. The Multi‑Agency Prevention Team (MAPT) is a small group of officers who lead operational, tactical and strategic initiatives in intervention and prevention for adults, children and young people, anti‑social behaviour and vulnerable locations. The team provides specialist advice and support to colleagues and partners across the force and engages in proactive and reactive interventions and responses to problem‑solving in these areas.

About The Role: The role is based within MAPT at Bishopsgate Police Station and will be supervised by a Sergeant and managed by an Inspector. It is key to achieving the Policing Plan 2025‑2028 objectives: keeping people in the City safe and feeling safe, preventing anti‑social behaviour and protecting the vulnerable.

  • Liaise with architects, designers and developers to promote designing‑out‑crime services and the Secure by Design framework, building awareness of crime‑prevention principles and encouraging adoption of recommended standards and specifications.
  • Provide specialist advice on the security, design and refurbishment of developments to influence design standards and specifications to minimise crime, disorder and anti‑social behaviour.
  • Engage with Local Authority planning departments to influence prioritisation of reducing crime and fear of crime as a key development principle and to foster the incorporation of relevant policies in local plans and other key documents.
  • Review planning applications to identify risk to the public and the force and appropriately escalate.
  • Represent the force in consultations with external organisations on new situational crime prevention initiatives, planning policies, legislation and planning applications; ensuring local policing needs are represented.
  • Maintain accurate records of activities and outcomes and produce management reports to support decision‑making and post‑event analysis of lessons learned.
  • Conduct visits under the Park Mark Scheme on behalf of the British Parking Association and Secure by Design.
  • Work with Counter‑Terrorism Security Officers in line with the agreed MOU and conduct OP Bridger visits as requested.
  • Conduct visits under the Police CPI Sanctuary Scheme for domestic abuse victims.
  • Complete required continuous professional development as outlined by the line manager.
  • Support the problem‑solving approach to crime and anti‑social behaviour in local BCUs, providing advice on the built environment and conducting environmental visual audits.
  • Support crime‑prevention messaging and other wider campaigns/projects as directed (e.g., Places of Worship Scheme, Safer Streets fund, blue‑light collaboration work).

Key Skills / Knowledge / Experience:

  • Existing Level 5 SBA accredited Design‑out‑Crime qualification.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, able to communicate at all levels with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent planning and organisational skills (operations, meetings, events).
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Proven administrative skills and the ability to produce management reports.
  • Fully operational and deployable.
