About The Team
Our Forensic Services team provides comprehensive forensic support to the wider Force and additional stakeholders. Crime Scene Investigation is one of four units within the department, sitting within our Specialist Operations directorate. It provides 24/7 capability through a small team of highly-skilled operational staff.
About The Role
This role will form a crucial link between our operational CSIs and Quality Management team, liaising with both to ensure all our procedures, training and ongoing competence assessments are current and fit for purpose.
Responsibilities
- Support the CSI unit in complying with the FSR’s Code of Practice and ISO 17020
- Work with the CSI Quality Manager to agree the required standards of training and competence required for operational CSIs
- Design, deliver and maintain records of competency testing programmes.
- Develop and document standard operating procedures
- Maintain regular contact with counterparts in other Forces and partner organisations to establish regional and national practice.
Requirements
- Substantial experience of working in an operational forensic department within a police environment.
- Knowledge of ISO standards, the Forensic Science Regulator’s Code of Practice and all applicable legislation.
- The ability to work without supervision and demonstrate responsibility and initiative.
- Excellent skills in planning, organising and the ability to produce clear, concise reports and maintain records.
- Effective oral communication skills.
This vacancy is open only to those who have the right to work in the UK. Also, due to this role requiring RV/CTC level vetting, you need to have continuously resided in the UK for the last 3 years. This residency needs to be in the immediate 3 years prior to this application. Selection Process
As part of the initial application process, you will be asked to evidence how your experience, skills, and knowledge align with the points listed above in the ‘Requirements Section.’ The application and interview will be tested under Level 2 of the College of Policing Competency and Values Framework. Applicants who fail to address the skills/knowledge/experience of the job description will not be considered. The closing date for applications is 12th June 2026. Following shortlisting, successful candidates will be invited to attend a competency-based interview, anticipated to be held week commencing 22nd June 2026.
