About The Team
The CoLP Fingerprint Bureau delivers an excellent, efficient service in all aspects of friction ridge detail work. They conduct analysis, comparison, evaluation and verification of finger, palm and plantar prints in connection with all levels of crime. Their work includes both proof of contact and proof of identity, bringing offenders to justice by supporting the wider judicial and coronial systems.
About The Role
You will be a qualified Fingerprint Expert, having successfully completed the Advanced Fingerprint Course. You will bring wide-ranging experience within fingerprint casework plus the ability to work well under pressure. You have the communication skills to express yourself clearly and work as part of a small close‑knit team. An experienced practitioner with an extensive knowledge of the fingerprint domain and relevant IT systems, including but not limited to Ident1 and PNC. You will have recent experience in an accredited fingerprint bureau to ISO 17025 standard, including auditing of policy documents. You’ll draw on extensive technical knowledge, which will help you train and mentor the team’s more junior staff.
Responsibilities
- Provide professional, efficient and effective friction ridge detail examination to the City of London Police and external agencies.
- Attend post‑mortem examinations and hospital mortuaries for the purposes of taking finger, palm or plantar impressions from cadavers to establish or confirm identity.
- Prepare fingerprint evidence and, where required, give oral evidence at magistrates, juvenile, crown and coroner’s courts.
Requirements
- Qualified Fingerprint Expert, having completed the Advanced Fingerprint Course.
- Recent experience in an accredited Fingerprint Bureau to ISO 17025 standard, including auditing of quality documents.
- Work effectively within a small, close‑knit team of specialist personnel.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Right to work in the UK is required. Due to the RV/CTC vetting level, applicants must have continuously resided in the UK for the last three years, with residency in the immediate three years prior to application.
Selection Process
As part of the initial application process, you will be asked to evidence how your experience, skills and knowledge align with the points listed above in the ‘Requirements’ section. The application and interview will be tested under Level 2 of the College of Policing Competency and Values Framework. Applicants who fail to address the skills, knowledge and experience of the job description will not be considered. The closing date for applications is Thursday 2nd April. Following shortlisting, successful candidates will be invited to attend a competency‑based interview, to be held week commencing Monday 13th April.
