This role is open to all Police Staff / external candidates who meet the essential criteria of the person specification, regardless of current grade. About The Team: The City of London Police operates in the 'Square Mile', going the extra mile to keep those who live, work or visit the City safe and feeling safe, whilst putting victims at the heart of everything we do. Additionally, the City of London Police is the national lead force for fraud, economic and cyber crime. City of London Police plays a unique role in supporting victims and pursuing those who commit the most prevalent crime in the UK, causing misery to victims and economic harm to the economy.

An opportunity to join the Communications Team has arisen, working across the digital portfolio, supporting all the aspects of the City of London Police's work.

About The Role: The Digital Communications Officer takes on a key role in assisting the Corporate Communications department with digital communication, including day-to-day administration of the force external website and intranet site, creating and editing content, and assisting the Digital Communications Manager with ongoing external and internal projects, including development work. A primary part of the role will also require the Digital Communications Officer to manage a number of social media channels used by the force; including training users, editing photos/graphics and videos to post on the various social media channels. The role requires the Digital Communications Officer to ensure that all sites and social media channels are a source of timely, accurate and relevant information for users.

Responsibilities:

  • Help maintain web related communications channels: social platforms, external website and force intranet.
  • Create and edit content to ensure it is fit for purpose, as necessary.
  • Assist other members of the communications team with digital and social media elements of campaigns and other communications activity.
  • Analyse web, intranet and social visitor statistics to identify visitor trends and produce reports into their effectiveness.
  • Assist in ensuring a joined-up approach to digital media use as the force expands its use of social media.

Requirements: For this role, we need you to have:

  • Excellent written English and experience writing for online audiences.
  • Experience of proactive use of social media to engage with communities.
  • Proficient with Adobe creative software.
  • CMS, web and social monitoring and analytics knowledge.
  • Ability to produce creative and innovative content to highlight the force's proactive approach to policing the City of London and leading nationally on cyber crime and fraud.

Selection Process: As part of the initial application process, you will be asked to evidence how your experience, skills, and knowledge demonstrate your ability to meet the person specification of the role. The application and interview will be tested under Level 2 of the College of Policing Competency and Values Framework. Applicants who fail to address the skills/knowledge/experience of the job description will not be considered. The closing date for applications is 20th February 2026. Following shortlisting, successful candidates will be invited to attend a competency-based interview, to be held Week commencing 9th March 2026.
