The Intelligence Support Team (IST) is responsible for the processing and development of intelligence and provides intelligence gatekeeping and intelligence support for operational policing matters covering 07:00 to 22:00shift pattern(no nights and 2 out of 6 weekends).
As a member of the team, you will gain insight and experience in an array of different intelligence applications and methods; from financial to open source to emerging new technologies.
A role with the IST provides officers with the necessary skills, experience and contacts for growth into other more complex intelligence roles.
You need to be proactive, enthusiastic and enjoy a variety of teamwork and assist in minimising and mitigating risk. Constables in these roles will be empowered to manage and ensure that intelligence and information submissions are properly evaluated and MoPI compliant before release and onward dissemination. Alongside processing intelligence submissions, the team also undertakes proactive intelligence development in areas such as acquisitive crime, vehicle-enabled offending and vulnerability, working with internal and external stakeholders to develop intelligence, produce products and support force priorities. There will be a requirement to highlight risks and be proactive to undertake initial stages of intelligence development in line with the Force Control Strategy.
You will be required to undertake CPD annually, and IPP (Intelligence Professionalisation Programme) to the level required.
Essential Criteria
- Strong decision-making skills
- Good verbal and written communication skills to produce and present intelligence brief
- To have a good understanding of Management of Police Information (MoPI) and the National Intelligence Model (NIM)
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word and PowerPoint
- Ability to produce consistently high‑quality work and demonstrate self‑motivation
- Excellent negotiating skills and the ability to communicate effectively at all ranks
Desirable Criteria
- Previous experience in intelligence arena, including protest intelligence
- A flexible approach to working hours
- Comprehensive understanding of Niche functionality for intelligence
The application and interview will be tested under Level 1 of the College of Policing Competency and Values Framework.
