The facilities management team are responsible for maintaining all buildings within the City of London Police estate. The team ensures the functionality, comfort, safety, sustainability and efficiency of the built environment, from car parks and storage facilities to the busy office spaces and those more specialist operational areas. The team play a key role providing operational support ensuring the City of London Police has a fully operational estate 24 hours a day 7 days a week. This is an exciting time for the team as we look to the future and help implement and oversee a new estate which is currently in the middle of its construction phase.
A Facilities Assistant will provide crucial support to the facilities management team, delivering and helping maintain the City of London Police estate. The role will entail handling a wide range of tasks, from managing basic maintenance duties to overseeing and escorting contractors. As a member of the facilities management team, they will provide key information from regular building and safety checks, to support and implement future works under the cyclical works programme for continuous improvement.

ResponsibilitiesIn this role, you will be:
- Planning and organising maintenance relating to reactive and planned preventive maintenance works across all CoLP buildings.
- Monitoring the Facilities Management inbox, supporting with requests and reporting of issues.
- Liaising with the Corporation’s City Surveyors Department to raise job requests using the online portal, monitoring open job requests ensuring completion and satisfactory standards are met.
- Arranging access and escorting contractors on the CoLP estate following the correct procedures.
For this role, we need you to have experience of:
- Carrying out minor building repair work and installations.
- An understanding of Mechanical and Electrical systems (M&E).
- Practical knowledge of Health and Safety at work provisions and COSHH regulations.
- Working in large and old premises.
This vacancy is open only to those who have the right to work in the UK. Also, due to this role requiring RV/CTC level vetting, you need to have continuously resided in the UK for the last 3 years. This residency needs to be in the immediate 3 years prior to this application. If you do not meet this requirement, you are not eligible to apply for the role, due to nature of the vetting checks needed.

Selection ProcessThe application and interview will be tested under Level 1 of the College of Policing Competency and Values Framework. Applicants who fail to address the skills/knowledge/experience of the job description will not be considered. The closing date for applications is 12th May 2026 @ 23:59hrs. Following shortlisting, successful candidates will be invited to attend a competency-based interview, anticipated to be held week commencing Monday 25th May 2026.
