Description of Department

The City Fraud Team (CFT) is a newly established investigative function within Specialist Operations. The team is responsible for investigating fraud offences occurring within Square Mile, providing a timely, proportionate, and victim-focused response to fraud affecting individuals and businesses. Complex national fraud investigation remains the remit of National Lead Force with whom the CFT will work closely.

The CFT works closely with a range of internal and external partners to ensure offences are appropriately investigated, victims are supported, and investigative outcomes are maximised. This role offers an opportunity to develop specialist investigative skills within a priority area of policing.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

Investigate allocated fraud offences occurring within the City of London, progressing enquiries from initial assessment through to outcome.

• Conduct investigative activity including interviews, evidence gathering, and analysis of financial and digital material.
• Build, manage and maintain accurate and compliant investigation and case files, ensuring compliance with disclosure and evidential standards.
• Assess threat, harm and risk to victims and implement appropriate safeguarding and victim care strategies.
• Apply relevant legislation including the Fraud Act 2006, PACE and CPIA to support investigations.
• Identify opportunities for early resolution and positive outcomes, escalating cases where complexity increases.
• Work collaboratively with colleagues across the City of London Police, including Fraud Protect, intelligence teams and victim services.
• Liaise with external partners including financial institutions and Report Fraud to progress investigations.
• Accurately record intelligence and investigation outcomes in line with force policy.
• Conduct all duties in accordance with the Code of Ethics and the College of Policing Competency and Values Framework.

• Remain operationally deployable, including conducting arrests, searches, interviews and supporting wider policing operations.
• Undertake any other duties commensurate with rank and role as reasonably required.

Selection Criteria

Essential

• Accredited or working towards PIP Level 2, with a willingness to undertake further investigative training.
• Working knowledge of fraud methodologies and offence types.
• Working understanding of relevant legislation including the Fraud Act 2006, PACE, CPIA and data protection legislation.
• Experience of managing investigative enquiries and progressing cases to outcome.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to organise and prioritise workloads effectively.
• Commitment to ethical, victim-focused policing.
• Vetted to MV / SC.

Desirable

• Experience of investigating fraud or other volume crime.
• Experience of managing victims of economic crime or vulnerability.
• Experience of working with financial or digital evidence.
• Experience of partnership working.
• Accredited Final Intelligence Officer or Financial Investigator
