About The Role
The City of London Police are recruiting an experienced Crime Scene Investigator or Crime Scene Manager to join the Scenes of Crime Department within Forensic Services. Forensic Services provides forensic response to all crime types and critical incidents and offers crime scene management capability.
The role includes identification and recovery of forensic evidence from a wide range of crime scenes, together with specialist photography. You will maximise opportunities for forensic intelligence in support of the National Intelligence Model. Working with deceased persons and attending post-mortems is part of the role. The Scenes of Crime Department is multi-disciplined and you will review and assess submissions from investigation units, retaining ownership of forensic aspects of cases from crime scene to court. The department oversees research projects with academic and professional partners and offers opportunities to present lectures and outreach programs. The role would suit individuals seeking to broaden knowledge beyond traditional crime scene work, including crime scene management and representing CoLP CSI management at Force and national levels.
Responsibilities
- Identify, recover and preserve forensic evidence at crime scenes, including specialist photography.
- Maximise forensic intelligence in line with the National Intelligence Model.
- Attend post-mortems as required.
- Review and assess submissions from investigation units; retain ownership of forensic aspects of cases from crime scene to court.
- Contribute to research projects and share knowledge through lectures/outreach.
- Represent CoLP CSI management at Force and national levels as required.
Requirements
Essential:
- Passed part 1 & 2 CSI courses and experienced in conducting forensic investigations at crime scenes, individually or as part of a team.
- Aspiring to high standards of work and delivering justice and public service.
- Willing to work day, night, and on-call shifts; able to work unsupervised and as part of a team; self-motivated and confident in knowledge and judgement.
- Excellent communication across the organisation.
- Awareness that the work may involve exposure to traumatic scenes for extended periods.
- Clean driving licence and experience in a CSI unit with exhibit management.
Desirable:
- Completion of a Crime Scene Manager course.
- Experience in an ISO 17020 accredited environment.
