Role Overview

As an influential leader, you will be at the forefront of developing and fostering a welcoming and diverse culture, working to enhance the professional development and performance of the force and ensuring it achieves its vision and delivers its policing priorities. You should have experience of developing and co-ordinating operational policing strategies in the areas of crime reduction, prevention, safeguarding, investigation or intelligence. You should be able to demonstrate how you have nurtured talent through mentoring, driven innovation and creativity, and have built high performing environments which foster an inclusive culture and allow individuals to be their very best. As an experienced senior leader, you should be able to show how you bring a strategic perspective to problem solving and partnership working, and how you have driven performance, accountability and learning. You should be passionate about leading by example, professional service delivery and demonstrate a desire for continual improvement to create a service that puts the public at the heart of everything we do.

City of London Police operate a 24/7 Duty Superintendent System, therefore all Superintendents will be required to undertake this function as part of their role.

Application Process – Lateral Transfer

Competency based application form, including a supporting statement of 2000 words focused on We Support and Inspire (CVF Level 3), We Collaborate (CVF Level 3), We Are Innovative and Open Minded (CVF Level 2), and We Are Emotionally Aware (CVF Level 3). Shortlist Panel – the shortlisting panel will assess your ability to demonstrate competence against the Competency Value Framework (CVF) Level 3. Selection Panel – candidates that are shortlisted to attend interview will be assessed through the following:

  • Professional Conversation: the assessment and delivery of a briefing to the panel will assess the candidates’ ability to deal with operational issues at Superintendent level.
  • Strategic Assessment: a competency based interview against the Competency Values Framework Level 2/3 (depending on CVF areas being assessed).

The panel will comprise of Deputy Commissioner Nik Adams, Chief Superintendent Helen Isaac and HR Director Kelly Glazebrook.
