This role is open to all Police Staff / external candidates who meet the essential criteria of the person specification, regardless of current grade.

About The Team: The team is made up of dedicated individuals who value accuracy and clear communication, ensuring every transcription request is completed to a high standard and within the required timeframe that supports the wider investigation. Each task is approached with professionalism and a high level of accuracy. The team is supervised by DS Gavin Popplewell who is responsible for their line management.

About The Role: Transcribe recorded interviews for submission to the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) from digital recordings and CDs. Copy type statements from handwritten and typed drafts. Occasionally type correspondence and other documents, mail merge letters, reports and statistical returns etc. Maintain high standards of presentation, ensuring correct layout and format of documents prepared to comply with national CPS requirements. Proofread documents and check accuracy as required.

Responsibilities: In this role, you will be:

  • To administer and monitor the Excel spreadsheet or other form of register, maintaining appropriate records of all work processed.
  • Monitor and prioritise workload and be able to deal with increased volumes and changing priorities to accommodate urgent work due to Court dates.
  • To liaise with Officers and Case Support staff to ascertain information relating to bail dates, charge dates and other relevant information. Also, to refer any urgent requests to the appropriate departmental Single Point of Contact.
  • Maintain and update files in agreed format to ensure easy retrieval of documents by officers and staff.
  • Work collaboratively with team members and colleagues within Business Units to deliver services efficiently, effectively and flexibly.

Requirements: For this role, we need you to have experience of:

  • Proven ability to perform to a high standard of audio transcription, copy typing and presentation skills with a minimum typing speed of 50wpm (candidates will undertake a test to evidence this).
  • Demonstrate oral and written communication skills, and good command of the English language.
  • Ability to work flexibly as a member of a team.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and to meet tight deadlines.

The expectation is that the successful candidate works 60% in the office, with 40% working from home. This vacancy is open only to those who have the right to work in the UK.

Selection Process: As part of the initial application process, you will be asked to evidence how your experience, skills, and knowledge demonstrate your ability to meet the person specification of the role. The application and interview will be tested under Level 1 of the College of Policing Competency and Values Framework. Applicants who fail to address the skills/knowledge/experience of the job description will not be considered. The closing date for applications is 16th January 2026. Following shortlisting, successful candidates will be invited to attend a competency-based interview, to be held week commencing Monday 9th February 2026.
