This is an exciting opportunity to join our expanding Legal Service Team. We are looking for two highly motivated Paralegals. We need both a contentious and a non-contentious Paralegal to support our Litigation Team and the other to support our Property & Contracts Team.

The ideal candidates will possess a helpful can-do attitude to support the Legal Service Manager and team in the provision of legal advice to officers and members working towards the Council’s ambitions vision to improve the city. The ideal candidates will also:

  • Have a law degree or equivalent.
  • Be able to demonstrate a good understanding of local government law and how it affects the framework within which the public sector operates.
  • Have experience of providing general advice to officers and clients as required on areas of law.
  • Have relevant drafting experience.
  • Be able to demonstrate good research skills.
  • Have the ability to communicate legal advice and legal ideas effectively.
  • Have good organisational skills.

The Contentious Paralegal will:

  • Take initial instructions from client departments.
  • Liaise with the courts.
  • Prepare bundles.
  • Sit behind Counsel at court.
  • Draft applications and schedules for the supervising solicitor.
  • Take initial instructions from client officers and minute meetings.
  • Assist with collating and responding to FOIs and SAR requests.

The Non-Contentious Paralegal will:

  • Take initial instructions from client departments.
  • Pull final contracts together.
  • Make applications to the land register and deal with requisitions.
  • Draft contract extension letters and minor contract amendments.
  • Draft licenses from precedents.
  • Seal documents and update the sealing register.
  • Assist with collating and responding to FOIs and SAR requests.
