The City of Lincoln Council is looking for a customer-focused Market Manager to support the day-to-day running of Cornhill Market.

This is a varied and rewarding role at an exciting time for the market, offering the opportunity to be involved in a wide range of events, operational activity and ongoing improvements.

Key responsibilities

  • Supporting the safe, efficient and effective daily operation of Cornhill Market.
  • Managing the day-to-day running of the market and making sure the site is safe, clean and well organised.
  • Keeping market records, procedures and compliance documents up to date.
  • Supporting stallholders with day-to-day issues, queries and compliance requirements.
  • Working with facilities, contractors and council colleagues to deal with repairs, inspections and operational issues.
  • Supervising the market team, including rotas, cover and day-to-day performance.
  • Responding to incidents, complaints and emergency situations when needed.
  • Providing a professional and helpful presence for traders, visitors and members of the public.

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate

  • The ability to work confidently both independently and as part of a team.
  • Experience of supervising staff or supporting the delivery of an operational service.
  • Strong communication skills with traders, contractors, colleagues and members of the public.
  • A calm and practical approach when dealing with issues or challenging situations.

  • Reliability, professionalism and a commitment to excellent customer service.
