Position Summary
**PLEASE NOTE THIS JOB POSTING IS TO GENERATE AN APPLICANT POOL FOR FUTURE REGULAR AND RELIEF SCHOOL CROSSING GUARD POSITIONS** The School Crossing Guard will assist and supervise school‑age children with crossing roads in various locations of the municipality in a safe and professional manner.
- Remain aware of traffic situations
- Display crossing sign and use caution while guiding children and families safely across roadways
- Ensure the safety of children crossing streets and intersections
- Maintain a pleasant, courteous and helpful attitude toward children, their guardians and the general public
- Model and reinforce proper behaviour and adherence to safety rules
- Report dangerous driving, crossing practices or issues to the appropriate authorities
Qualifications, Competencies
- Experience working with children and/or adolescents
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a satisfactory Criminal Record Check, including Vulnerable Sector
- Must demonstrate corporate values of Belonging, Collaboration, Accountability, and Innovation
Skills, Abilities, Work Demands
- Ability to make quick and accurate decisions while keeping in mind the safety of children
- Good observation skills and the ability to interact with children and the general public in a positive manner
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, relaying information in a clear and concise manner with the ability to handle stressful situations
- Must be available to work split shifts and be able to provide your own transportation
- Able to perform the essential duties of the job including standing for long periods of time, outdoors and in all weather conditions
