Position Summary

The Life Enrichment Coordinator is responsible for the delivery and facilitation of age appropriate social, recreational, and leisure programs for residents based on and responsive to the abilities, strengths, needs, interests, goals and former lifestyles of each resident. Support the spiritual, physical therapeutic and rehabilitation services for residents and integrate volunteers, family members and students into the programs and services of the facility.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

  • Develop, organize and provide recreation, leisure, rehabilitative and educational activities for all residents to occur within the home and/or community.
  • Provide assistance or adaptations to facilitate resident’s participation in activities.
  • Conduct new admission assessments for individual resident recreational and social needs.
  • Assist with integration of volunteers, family members and students into the programs of the facility.
  • Orient, train, direct and instruct volunteers and student placements as assigned.
  • Regularly record resident progress notes to report any changes in residents; provide accurate and current reports and documentation of services provided and other data as required.
  • Supervise and mentor students and volunteers working in Life Enrichment as required.
  • Conduct program evaluations through interviews, observations, surveys to assess effectiveness of programs and future planning.
  • Work flexible hours to offer and/or accommodate Resident programs as well as volunteer services, on weekends and evenings.
  • Identify and report safety hazards, conduct regular safety inspections and follow safe working practices.

Qualifications, Competencies

  • 2‑year diploma in recreation, leisure studies, therapeutic recreation, kinesiology or equivalent.
  • One (1) year experience in planning, executing, and evaluating activities within a long‑term care or community service environment.
  • First Aid Certification and Food Handlers Certification an asset.

Skills, Abilities, Work Demands

  • Able to perform the essential duties of the job.
  • Excellent leadership, organizational and interpersonal skills and ability to supervise and direct others.
  • Experience in program development.
  • Experience conducting personal interviews, public speaking and presentation skills is required.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Microsoft Word, tested at the basic level.
  • Work flexible schedules as required to provide continuity of programs and services, including evenings and weekends.
  • Proof of recent screening for Tuberculosis (TB).
  • Proof of immunity to communicable diseases.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a satisfactory criminal record check, including Vulnerable Sector.
