Position Summary
- Responsible for the operation of recycling, organic and garbage vehicles in a highly safety conscious manner.
- Drive and operate recycling, organic and garbage vehicles.
- Collect, load and unload leaf, brush, garbage, organics and recyclables.
- Check, lubricate, refuel and clean equipment and report any malfunctions to the Supervisor.
- Work in compliance with the Highway Traffic Act and the Occupational Health & Safety Act and Regulations in a safe and efficient manner, reporting any deficiencies, unsafe situations or conditions to the Supervisor.
- Work in the spirit of team participation.
- Perform varied tasks and duties within the Solid Waste Division as required.
Qualifications, Competencies
- This position receives 4% in lieu of vacation + 13% in lieu of all benefits in addition to hourly rate of pay.
- High School (Grade 12) diploma or equivalent.
- Two (2) years experience driving and operating commercial vehicles and performing labour intensive duties.
- Possess and maintain a valid DZ License, with a satisfactory driver’s abstract of no more than 3 demerit points.
- Preference will be provided to those candidates with experience as a driver labourer in the waste collection industry.
- Qualified candidates will be contacted and required to pass the associated written and driving tests in order to move onto the interview.
- As a condition of employment, all new hires will be required to complete the pre-trip inspection training and pass the pre-trip inspection testing within 30 working days of starting position.

- Ability to operate equipment and machinery in a safe efficient manner.

- Ability to work Saturdays and/or Sundays following a statutory holiday.
- Good and reasonable understanding of all Solid Waste activities and routes is an asset.
Hours of work: able to receive a call at 5:00 a.m. to report to work on same day. Must be willing to work all and/or any shifts as required. Proof of immunity to Tetanus and Hepatitis B may be required. Must obtain and maintain a satisfactory criminal record check.
