Custodian (City Hall) - FMCS, Temporary Part-Time (up to 6 months)
**Please note this is a posting for two temporary positions, covering part‑time hours, for up to 6 months**.
The Custodian will perform general cleaning duties for municipal facilities, ensuring they are safe, efficient and well‑designed.
Responsibilities
- General cleanliness of municipal facilities in a healthy, safe and sanitary manner following best practices and schedules
- Open and lock various facilities, disengage alarm systems and reinstate security systems
- Beautification of entryways, walkways and parapets surrounding the perimeter of the facilities
- Disinfect and sanitize all touch surfaces
- Clean washrooms, offices, meeting rooms, floors and stairs using mops, vacuums and other industry cleaning tools
- Dust all furniture, fixtures and other areas (high and low)
- Clean interior and exterior glass surfaces including doorways, mirrors, interior separation windows and similar
- Manage waste schedules, move garbage and recycling to and from the curb
- Assist operations personnel with the movement of office equipment, furniture and other items
- Shovel snow, spread ice melt, sweep and remove debris
- Complete audit reports to document activity and formally report any deficiency findings
- Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Completion of High School (Grade 12) diploma or equivalent
- Three (3) months of experience working as a custodian, cleaning buildings/facilities
- ISSA or GBAC certification considered an asset
- Willingness to complete GBAC certification within 3 months of employment
- Knowledge and experience of standard cleaning methods
- Valid "G" Driver License and access to a vehicle considered an asset
- WHMIS Certification required
- Demonstrate corporate values of Belonging, Collaboration, Accountability, and Innovation
- Knowledge of Workplace Hazardous Materials Information Systems course
- Ability to use computer tools for ordering materials, checking email, schedules, meeting invites, safety bulletins and completing work orders online
- Ability to understand and carry out verbal and written instructions and report using same medium
- Ability to deal with staff and members of the public in a way that promotes teamwork, respect and customer service
- Ability to perform routine repetitive tasks on a continuous basis
- Ability to work independently with limited supervision
- Able to perform essential duties such as frequent bending, walking, manipulation and lifting of products and equipment
- Shift work will be required; dynamic attitude toward working at various sites is a must
- Must obtain and maintain a satisfactory criminal record check
