St Augustine's is a Catholic secondary school of approximately 1035 students situated in the west of the City of Edinburgh. Its catchment area encompasses five Catholic primary schools extending from South Queensferry in the north to Balerno in the south. However, as a result of parental choice, our current S1 contains students drawn from 31 primaries.

St Augustine's stresses the importance of high levels of achievement for every student and there is a strong sense of community within the school. All staff of St Augustine's, teaching and non-teaching, are prepared to make a positive contribution to the school as a whole and to play their part as members of the St Augustine's community.

The post is full time in a busy English & Literacy department. Emphasis is on getting the best possible outcome for each of our students so resilience and creativity are welcome qualities for applicants. A range of abilities from Nat3 to Advanced Higher.

Catholic Schools: It is not necessary to be of the Catholic faith to apply for this role. However, since this is a Roman Catholic school, appointees will require to be approved with regard to religious belief and character by the Church. The successful candidate must therefore contact the Edinburgh Diocesan Staffing Adviser to verify or establish their status with regard to Church Approval. This post is regulated work with children and/or protected adults under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. The preferred candidate will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check. Where an individual has spent a continuous period of 3 months or more out with the UK in the last 5 years, an Overseas Criminal Record Check will be required. You will be required to provide this check. An unconditional offer of employment and commencement in the post will be subject to the outcome of both these pre-employment checks being deemed satisfactory.

Salaries will be in accordance with the Scheme of Salaries and Conditions of Service for Teaching Staff in School Education.
