Archives & Records Officer (Digital Governance) - Fixed term until 31/12/2027
Waverley Court

Salary: Β£40,501 - Β£47,639
Hours: 36 per week, 52 weeks

We are looking for a motivated and innovative Records & Archives Officer (Digital Governance) to help shape how the Council manages, preserves and governs its information. Working within the Information Governance Unit, you will support digital records management and AI governance activities across the organisation, helping services manage information effectively and use AI ethically. The role combines professional record-keeping work with a strong focus on digital information governance, including Microsoft 365, Microsoft Purview, digital preservation, information risk and the responsible use of AI.

The post sits within the Information Governance Unit, part of the Council's Democracy & Governance service area in the Chief Executive's Office. Reporting to the Information Asset Manager, the Records & Archives Officer (Digital Governance) will join the specialist Records & Archives Team, which helps the Council manage, preserve, and make its digital records accessible, while supporting compliance with information governance legislation and professional standards.

The team supports services across the Council with records management, archival preservation, public access to archives and wider information governance matters. The service also plays an important role in protecting and promoting the Council's corporate memory, supporting democratic decision-making and ensuring valuable records remain available for future generations.

This role focuses on digital governance. You will help develop and maintain records management controls within Microsoft 365, support the use of Microsoft Purview governance tools, contribute to digital preservation activities and assist services in adopting effective digital record-keeping practices. You will also support projects relating to digital records management and information governance improvement initiatives, helping the Council respond to the challenges and opportunities presented by digital working and emerging technologies.

Working across a large and complex organisation, you will collaborate with colleagues at all levels, providing professional advice, delivering training and contributing to projects that improve how information is managed, protected and accessed.

We are committed to a diverse and inclusive workforce where everyone feels valued and able to be their best. We particularly encourage applications from women for senior roles, as well as people from minority ethnic backgrounds, people with disabilities or neurodivergent people, care experienced people, carers and LGBT+ people across all levels of the organisation, all of whom are currently underrepresented. All applicants will be considered fairly based on skills and experience. Disabled and care-experienced applicants who meet the minimum job criteria will be guaranteed an interview.
