Edinburgh is an outstanding capital city, recognised across the globe as a leader in business, the arts, science and education. The city centre is a UNESCO World Heritage site, and our cityscape provides a unique architectural and natural backdrop to city living. Home to the internationally renowned Edinburgh festivals and the Scottish Parliament, it is an excellent city in which to live, work, study, visit and invest.
At the City of Edinburgh Council, we’re prioritising creating good places to live and work, taking all the local actions needed to end poverty and working to deliver a net zero city by 2030.
We have a fantastic opportunity for a senior leader to join our team. Our newly created Service Director – Transport and Mobility will lead a variety of important services which are responsible for keeping our transport network safe, effective and inclusive for all users as well as ensuring that the network develops to allow for more sustainable travel modes and is able to adapt to the challenges of a growing city region and a changing climate.
You will provide inspirational leadership to a large workforce, and balance strategic thinking with a delivery mindset to make improvements to our transport network. You will be outcome and customer-focussed, with significant experience of leading and championing change and have the ability to drive a high-performance culture across all the services within the portfolio.
We’re committed to creating a workplace culture where all our people feel valued, included and able to be their best at work, and we recognise the benefits that a diverse workforce with different values, beliefs, experience, and backgrounds brings to us as an organisation.
As part of our goal to improve our organisational culture and create a great place to work together for the people of Edinburgh, we want to make sure that we’re bringing the best people into our roles, not just in their skills and experience but also in their approach to work.
To help achieve this, we’re changing the way we interview and assess candidates by moving from a competency-based interview approach to a behavioural and technical (skills for the job) based approach. This new way of interviewing will allow us to assess how you think and how you would bring Our Behaviours of Respect, Integrity and Flexibility into your ways of working.
You can find out more on Our Behaviours web page.
Our salary range typically reflects the initial starting salary and annually increases until it reaches the top of the range. Happy to talk flexible working.
