Science Technician
Broughton High School
Salary: £28,046 – £32,010 (pro-rata for part-time)
Hours: 33 per week, 52 weeks
Working pattern for position is Monday – Wednesday 08:00 – 16:00 (1 hour unpaid each day) Friday – 08:00 – 13:00
We are looking for an enthusiastic and organised person to join our busy Science Faculty.
The role will involve:
- Preparing materials, equipment and science areas for use by teachers and students.
- Assisting in demonstrating the use of equipment and apparatus
- Designing and constructing equipment and apparatus for use in experiments.
- Maintaining an adequate range of stock and efficient stock levels. This includes maintenance of a stores system and completion of purchase orders for final approval by the Principal Teacher in line with Council Purchasing procedures.
- The postholder will also ensure that the stores are well organised and hazardous substances are labelled and kept in a safe place.
- Ensuring that materials and equipment are maintained in good order and in a safe condition.
- Ensuring that the preparation rooms, fume cupboards and laboratories are kept in a safe and tidy condition. Where applicable, may supervise Technician(s) and Learning Assistants within the Science Department and utilise the requisition system.
- Monitoring stock levels, reordering and issuing work sheets as required.
- Assisting the teaching staff in the support work necessary to prepare and operate TAPS/Standard Grade laboratories and computer aided teaching methods within the science area.
- Undertaking relevant administrative duties i.e. statistical returns, diaries, equipment lists and inventories etc.
- The post holder will undertake any other relevant duties, as required by the Principal Teacher, Business Manager or Headteacher.
Good working knowledge of IT systems both hardware and software is desirable.
Candidates may be asked to provide basic first aid. A suitable qualification in first aid or experience in this area along with a willingness to undertake any necessary training is desirable.

The preferred candidate will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check. You will be required to provide this check.
