Overview

Pupil Support Worker - Fixed Term until 26/06/2026

Salary: £25,322 - £27,727 (pro-rata for part-time and sessional)

Hours: 27.5 per week, 39 week sessional

Working hours for the position are Monday to Thursday 08:40 - 15:30 and Friday 08:40 - 12:05.

Responsibilities

  • Provide pupil support for learners with a range of additional support needs, helping them thrive academically and socially.
  • Build positive relationships with pupils, parents and staff, adopting a nurturing approach.
  • Support pupils with autism or other complex needs; prior experience in a school/education setting is desirable.

Requirements / Qualifications

  • Experience of working with individuals with autism or other complex needs (preferred).
  • Experience in a school/education setting (desirable).
  • Knowledge of autism would be advantageous.

This post is regulated work with children and/or protected adults under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. The preferred candidate will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check. If an individual has spent a continuous period of 3 months or more outwith the UK in the last 5 years, an Overseas Criminal Record Check will be required. An unconditional offer of employment is subject to satisfactory outcomes of these pre-employment checks.

About Kaimes School

Kaimes School is a non-denominational special school in the south of Edinburgh, providing education for primary and secondary learners with complex long-term additional support needs where mainstream cannot be met. The needs of learners are primarily associated with Autistic Spectrum Disorder. The school currently has 16 classes from P6 to S6; the maximum pupil:teacher ratio is 6:1. The school is divided into two buildings and offers a range of classrooms to support sensory and regulation needs. It is located close to local primary schools and Gracemount High School to facilitate joint working and inclusion where appropriate.

Working with Our Community

We collaborate with Educational Psychologists, the Additional Support for Learning Service, CAMHS Learning Disability Team, Allied Health Professionals and third-sector partners, and we have an active Parent Council. We strive to enable learners with Autistic Spectrum Disorder to thrive through attainment, achievement, curriculum development and partnership working.
