Hillwood Primary School is seeking an Early Years Assistant on a fixed term contract until 30/06/2027. The salary ranges from £26,806 to £27,032 (pro rata for part-time and sessional) for 36 hours per week over 39 weeks sessional.

The successful candidate will support our nursery class and should be enthusiastic and skilled with relevant experience of working with children in an educational setting. Experience in supporting children with emotional and behavioural needs and establishing effective positive relationships with children is ideal.

Hillwood Primary School is a small non-denominational primary school situated on the western outskirts of Edinburgh, currently serving 100 pupils across 4 composite classes and an Early Years nursery class for eligible 2-year-olds and 3-5-year-olds.

The school is led by a management team consisting of a Head Teacher, a Principal Teacher, and a Business Manager, supported by a mix of full-time and part-time class teachers, a Support for Learning Teacher, and a team of Pupil Support Assistants. Our extensive school grounds feature pupil gardens, picnic tables, a gazebo, a trim trail, and a sports pitch, with a strong focus on outdoor learning, loose parts play, forest visits, and the Daily Mile.

Hillwood has a strong positive ethos and presence in the community, with many children having been preceded as Hillwood pupils by their parents and grandparents. Our Parent Council actively engages in the school community, and curricular and social events are well attended, fostering excellent relationships between parents, staff, and children.

This post is regulated work with children and/or protected adults under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. The preferred candidate will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check. An Overseas Criminal Record Check will be required for individuals who have spent a continuous period of 3 months or more outside the UK in the last 5 years.
