Lifelong Learning Library Adviser

The Mobile Library Team is based at Oxgangs Library. The team delivers library services outside of library locations, e.g. to schools, customers' homes, care homes, and Assisted Living Accommodation. Postholders must be able to work in a variety of non-library environments and support customers with additional needs.

This role involves continual manual handling of boxes and trolleys of books into schools and care homes, loading these on and off vehicles in all weather conditions. Appropriate PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) will be supplied. The job also involves working at low heights and climbing in and out of vehicle cabs. A Full Driving Licence is required as the successful candidate will need to drive smaller Mobile Library Vehicles - up to 3.5 tonnes.

Our libraries are at the heart of their communities. Staff work with the community to help create a thriving place to live and to help reduce poverty and inequality. We support users to develop their digital skills and provide information and advice. Our staff encourage babies and children to develop their language and reading ability through programmes like Bookbug and Read, Write Count. We help those of all ages in the community who struggle with loneliness by providing a place to meet and connect. We offer a full range of books and resources to help everyone live, learn, and work.

It is vital that our staff have a broad understanding of the issues faced by young people and are willing to engage with and support them while maintaining a positive, safe, and trusted environment. Any youth engagement experience will be welcomed. To be a successful member of our team, you must demonstrate excellent customer service and understand the needs of different parts of the community. The successful candidates will predominantly work with the Direct Services/Mobile Library team but may be expected to work in any library across the city.

Requirements include a Full Driving Licence, as the successful candidate will be required to drive smaller Mobile Library Vehicles - up to 3.5 tonnes. This post is regulated work with children and/or protected adults under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act. The preferred candidate will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check. An Overseas Criminal Record Check will be required for individuals who have spent a continuous period of 3 months or more outside the UK in the last 5 years.

Our salary range typically reflects the initial starting salary and annually increases until it reaches the top of the range. We are happy to discuss flexible working.
