Hours: 27.5 per week, 39 weeks sessional

Balerno High School is a six-year comprehensive which serves the districts of Balerno, Ratho and Kirknewton. The school has close liaison with the associated primaries in each of these communities. An active Parent Council supports us. The roll for session 2026-2027 is 890 pupils in years S1 to S6. Around twenty five percent of our pupils are enrolled as placing requests from out with the catchment. Our school has an excellent academic reputation and a vibrant extra-curricular and enrichment programme.

We are looking for an enthusiastic individual to support pupils within the classroom. Pupil Support Assistants are required to join the Support for Learning team assisting and encouraging students with the aim of maximising attainment and support for all pupils. You will be joining a high achieving and successful department and other teams of staff who are dedicated to providing the best for all young people. You should be committed to further raising the attainment and achievement of all our pupils.

This post is regulated work with children and/or protected adults under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. The preferred candidate will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check. Where an individual has spent a continuous period of 3 months or more out with the UK in the last 5 years, an Overseas Criminal Record Check will be required. You will be required to provide this check. An unconditional offer of employment and commencement in the post will be subject to the outcome of both these pre-employment checks being deemed satisfactory.
