Business Support Administrator (Building Standards) – Edinburgh

Salary: £26,337 - £28,835 | Hours: 36 per week

We are looking for a motivated individual to join the Building Standards Department. The team processes around 5000 building warrants a year and collaborates with professionals across services to provide a seamless development consent process. You will provide administrative and problem‑solving support to Building Standards staff and external customers, following established processes and handling sensitive information in line with policies.

We work in a hybrid way (home and office) with modern offices in Edinburgh City Centre, a short walk from Waverley Station. Our organisation values a diverse, inclusive workplace culture and high customer care standards.

Responsibilities
  • Provide administrative and problem‑solving support for Building Standards staff and external customers.
  • Follow processes and handle sensitive/personal information in line with policies and guidelines.
  • Utilise systems as appropriate (experience with Uniform and IDOX DMS is desirable; full training will be provided).
  • Demonstrate excellent IT skills (Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, Access and Teams) and strong organisational abilities.
  • Work effectively as part of a team or on own initiative; maintain high standards of customer care.
  • Contribute to maintaining a smooth development consent process in collaboration with other service areas.
Qualifications and Experience
  • Strong administrative and problem‑solving abilities; ability to follow processes and manage confidential information.
  • Desirable: knowledge of Building Standards service; experience with Uniform and IDOX DMS (training provided).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft packages (Outlook, Word, Excel, Access, Teams).
  • Excellent communication, IT, and organisational skills; ability to work independently or as part of a team.
