Salary: £27,257 - £29,850 Hours: 36 per week These posts will work on 4 days on, 4 days off working pattern, including working weekends.
For this variable working pattern, a supplemental working time payment will be paid.
This is in addition to the advertised wage.
Vacancies have arisen for Disposal Operatives at sites across Edinburgh based in the West (Bankhead) and in the East (Seafield).
Postholders will be expected to operate large plant machinery in either of the City's Waste Transfer Stations and their 3 Recycling Centres to handle and load waste and recycling materials.
This will comprise of a Material Handler & articulated shovel.
Along with a JCB 3CX.
Previous plant experience is desirable but not essential as training will be provided to the successful candidates.
Part of the machine operator roles will involve cleaning and fuelling along with all related paperwork, which includes vehicle check sheets, cleaning logs, vehicle damage & maintenance reports.
They will also need to be able to prioritise their daily tasks, as well as following instruction given by the site chargehands/team leaders.
When the post, holders are not required to drive plant machinery, they will be required to complete other duties.
These will include the following: Covering the Weighbridge, this includes recording vehicle details, completing waste transfer notes & calculating vehicle weights.
Advising vehicles where to go along with Banksmen/reverse assistant duties.
Assisting on the HWRC site, receiving site users and booking them in using the booking system on the site i Phone.
Checking documentation in line with the site rules.
Advising site users, the correct methods to recycle/dispose their items, helping manually where appropriate.
When working on the HWRC, there will be periods of time you will be required to work within the flow of traffic.
Working in accordance with the sites Safe Working Practices & Risk Assessments protecting their safety as well as their colleagues & site users.
On site cleaning such as litter picking, sweeping, light weeding is included in the role.
Posts will be based at any of our 3 sites, Seafield, Bankhead & Craigmillar.
You can be placed at any of these sites or asked to move as per operational needs.
Experience of driving plant is desirable, working in a customer facing environment, and experience of working in a busy site and of basic health and safety is also useful.
