The City of Edinburgh Council has declared a Housing Emergency and wants to ensure everyone has a secure, safe, warm place to call home, with access to services and a culture that supports individuals and communities to thrive. The Council provides services to all 50 high-rise blocks in the city, ensuring they are clean, safe and well maintained. This is achieved by teams of Concierge staff who carry out estate works in and around the multi-storey blocks, carry out a range of maintenance and cleaning tasks as well as operating CCTV monitoring equipment and door entry to ensure the safety and security of the buildings and the areas where our tenants live.

We have exciting and attractive opportunities for proactive and positive individuals to join the Housing Concierge and Estates team located in our high-rise blocks within the city's four localities. We are looking for people who can communicate effectively with the public and work with others in maintaining buildings; you need to be flexible and may be required to provide cover at other blocks or move between roles throughout the locality. The role involves daily aspects of physical activity and manual handling.

Key duties of the post include:

  • A requirement for a physical aspect of the role is essential.
  • Excellent team working skills and willingness to support colleagues.
  • Work as part of a team to ensure there are high standards of cleanliness and hygiene in multi-storey high-rise blocks and surrounding neighbourhood areas and that the building and neighbourhood are clean, tidy and fire safe.
  • Be proactive in identifying and dealing with cleaning and repairs issues and have an awareness of conditions for local people.
  • Carry out a wide range of customer contact with tenants and liaison with colleagues across various services to assist residents and ensure the safety and security of the blocks.
  • Where necessary, operate CCTV monitoring equipment and door entry and other IT systems.
  • Make sure the blocks are secure and only authorised people are allowed access.
  • Build and maintain excellent relationships with tenants and residents in the blocks.
  • Work as part of a team taking responsibility for shared workload including collaborative working with others for bulky items and assist in covering shifts, if requested or required.

If you are someone who enjoys new opportunities and providing excellent customer service, we would love to hear from you. If you have any questions or want to discuss the post, please contact hrmi@edinburgh.gov.uk.
