An exciting opportunity has arisen to join Edinburgh Social Care Partnership as a Community Care Assistant, with responsibility for supporting people whose finances are managed under Corporate Appointeeship. We are looking for highly motivated people with relevant experience to join this new team being developed under Assessment and Care Management. This new Corporate Appointeeship team will support more than 400 people in Edinburgh whose welfare benefits and financial affairs are managed by City of Edinburgh Council.

The post will involve working directly with people and other teams to achieve positive outcomes.

About the Service

The Edinburgh Health & Social Care Partnership is on a journey to transform the way in which Social Work delivers support and services to ensure that we support adults with multiple and complex needs, and increasing levels of frailty, to live as independently as possible. We work effectively with our health colleagues and a broad range of partners to ensure that the most vulnerable within our city get the right service in the right place at the right time. We have a key priority to shift the balance of care and promote effective early intervention and preventative supports.

About You

We are looking for people who will bring experience, knowledge and skills of working with people with complex needs. You will have experience of building rapport and trust with people who receive support, and have an ability to adapt your communication style with individuals. You will also have experience of working alongside families, informal carers and other professionals. As well as working autonomously, you will work as part of a multidisciplinary team who support adults, their families, and carers. You will be providing advice, support, guidance and, if necessary, referring onto relevant social work team an adult at risk of harm. Trauma informed, relationships and strengths based social work is at the heart of our practice.

You will undertake a range of tasks including:

• Build relationships and trust with people you are supporting.
• Support the person to budget accordingly in line with their income.
• Support the person to spend funds accordingly and manage any additional requests.
• Review the need for Corporate Appointeeship on an annual basis.
• Conduct home visits where necessary, including Care Homes.
• Where appropriate complete community care reviews alongside Corporate Appointeeship review.
• Report any concerns under the Adult Support and Protection (Scotland) Act 2007 and Adults with Incapacity (Scotland) Act 2000.

This is a new opportunity to support the development of a team. You will be provided with regular supervision and training.

Requirements

Hold an SVQ Level 3 in Social Care, Health Support Work, or Occupational Therapy Support, or demonstrate equivalent experience. These posts are exempt under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exclusions and Exceptions) (Scotland) Order 2013 (as amended). Your PVG fee and any SSSC fee will be paid by us (where applicable). This post is regulated work with children and/or protected adults under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. The preferred candidate will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check. Where an individual has spent a continuous period of 3 months or more out with the UK in the last 5 years, an Overseas Criminal Record Check will be required. You will be required to provide this check. An unconditional offer of employment and commencement in the post will be subject to the outcome of both these pre-employment checks being deemed satisfactory.
