We have an exciting opportunity for a confident, personable and technically strong Building Surveyor with financial and claims management experience to join our established team of professionals. This is a great opportunity to build your career in a high-impact public sector role, gaining broad experience in mixed-tenure housing regeneration while contributing to better neighbourhoods and energy-efficient homes in Edinburgh.

Working in the Low Rise Area Based Regeneration Team, you will be involved in the contract administration and technical aspects of our construction activities from planning through to handover of allocated contracts, with an Annual Spend of £15m, using primarily SBCC Design & Build Contracts. The Area Based Regeneration Service key objective is to deliver essential repairs, maintenance, and energy efficiency improvements to the common parts of mixed-tenure tenement blocks across Edinburgh - buildings containing both Council-owned and privately-owned flats.

You will work in conjunction with Quantity Surveying and Construction Project Managers, whilst working closely with Case Officers, to ensure that the contracts provide best technical solution and best value for all stakeholders. We are looking for someone who has a proven track record, knowledge, and experience of traditional and design and building contract forms and working in or alongside public sector initiatives and ensuring alignment with Council Policies would be advantageous.

You should be confident in communicating with a wide range of stakeholders, internal and external including designers, contractors, housing officers, tenant liaison officers, and residents to drive forward projects to a successful outcome.

We are committed to creating a workplace culture where all our people feel valued, included and able to be their best at work, and we recognise the benefits that a diverse workforce with different values, beliefs, experience and backgrounds brings to us as an organisation. To help achieve this, we have moved to a behavioural and technical (skills for the job) based approach.

If you are someone who enjoys new opportunities and have strong leadership skills demonstrating our behaviours - respect, integrity and flexibility as well as extensive experience of creating a high performing culture, driving change and service delivery, we would love to hear from you.

If you have any queries or wish to discuss the advert, please contact us. We are committed to a diverse and inclusive workforce where everyone feels valued and able to be their best. We particularly encourage applications from women for senior roles, as well as people from minority ethnic backgrounds, people with disabilities or neurodivergent people, care experienced people, carers and LGBT people across all levels of the organisation, all of whom are currently underrepresented. All applicants will be considered fairly based on skills and experience. Disabled and care-experienced applicants who meet the minimum job criteria will be guaranteed an interview.

As part of our goal to improve organisational culture and create a great place to work together for the people of Edinburgh, we want to make sure we're recruiting the best people. We're interested not only in your skills and experience but also in your approach to work. Therefore, part of our interview process will be an assessment of how you would bring our behaviours of Respect, Integrity and Flexibility into your ways of working.

Our salary range typically reflects the initial starting salary and annually increases until it reaches the top of the range. Happy to talk flexible working.
