A Day in the Life of a Communications Operator As a Communications Operator, you will utilize the department\’s communication system to process emergency and non-emergency calls, coordinate responses for law enforcement and fire services via two-way radio, and handle unexpected challenges in the city. When not out in the field, you\’ll assist in communicating with emergency personnel, obtaining information, performing data entry, and recording warrants, stolen vehicles, property, runaways, and protective orders into a national database. You\’ll dispatch appropriate department personnel and support other department divisions as needed. Your excellent people skills and dedication to customer service will be vital to your success. Qualifications One (1) year of experience in transmitting, receiving, and relaying information over phone and/or computer. High school diploma, GED, or equivalent. Successful completion of the state-required telecommunications course and obtaining a TCOLE License within the first year. Bilingual in English/Spanish preferred.
