We are seeking to make an appointment at Senior Lecturer / Associate Professor grade in the area of robotics. You will be joining a vibrant and intensive research environment at the University of Bristol, ranked fifth for research in the UK (UK Research Excellence Framework). The University is investing £500M in a new campus in the heart of Bristol and will host a new £225M UK national supercomputer research facility (Isambard-AI). The University of Bristol is a leading centre for innovation in robotics and autonomous systems and jointly runs the Bristol Robotics Laboratory (BRL); the largest centre for multidisciplinary robotics research in the UK with over £40M in active research funding. BRL offers access to world‑class facilities including robot design, fabrication and testing, human-robot interaction, smart materials development, supported by a team of dedicated technicians and state-of-the-art rapid prototyping and workshop facilities.
What will you be doing? The post will involve conducting research in robotics and publishing in the leading journals in the field, applying for research funding, supervising PhD students and postdoctoral researchers, and teaching on our suite of MSc programmes in robotics. You will be expected to develop and maintain a network of industrial and other external contacts relating to both teaching and research. You will contribute to the effective running of the School and Faculty by undertaking academic leadership roles. You will build up your strong research track record in the context of robotics, publish papers in top venues relevant to your research area, deliver and administer relevant teaching and assessment at University level, and impart knowledge to undergraduate and postgraduate students in an enthusiastic, effective and innovative manner.
You should apply if this is a Senior Lecturer (equivalent to Assistant Professor) or Associate Professor level post, and we are very much looking for evidence of your potential to achieve world‑leading research outputs and excellence in teaching. You should be able to demonstrate potential to support an internationally leading research team to deliver high‑quality research outputs with the potential to secure research funding. You will have an excellent track record of research outputs in robotics that complements and expands existing strengths in our research activities. You should have strong written and oral communication skills, and a collegiate outlook.
