An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Security and Campus Safety Officer to join the University of Bristol’s Security Services team. A range of professional, security related training is provided. The role is a fundamental part of the University community and provides reassurance to staff, students, and visitors alike.
What will you be doing?
- Be part of an Operational Security Team providing a service 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, that includes the following areas:
- Foot and Mobile Security Patrols
- Active engagement with a range of people including students, staff, and visitors
- Monitoring and response to critical and life safety alarms
- Operating a modern 24/7 Security Control Room
- Emergency 'First responder' services to a wide spectrum of incidents
- Car Parking enforcement
- Promote crime reduction and personal safety awareness across the University community
- Liaise with the Emergency services, as required
You will work as part of a team of uniformed, well trained, professional Security and Campus Safety Officers working on a rotational 12-hour shift pattern working an average 35 hours per week over a 12-month period. The roster pattern is 11-hour shifts (plus 1-hour unpaid meal relief) comprising of 2 days and 2 nights followed by 4 days off (4 on duty / 4 off duty). The core shifts are: 0600 – 1800 (days) / 1800 – 0600 (nights).
You should apply if you have:
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- The ability to remain calm and professional under pressure
- Experience in a customer-facing role, ideally in security
- Ability to dynamically risk assess any given situation
- Accurate recording of incidents
An SIA Door Supervision (DS) or Security Guarding (SG) license is desirable for this role; however, we will readily accept non-SIA applications from candidates with transferable skills in areas such as Customer Service or who are interested in pursuing a security career. Full training and support will be provided to obtain the necessary licencing for this role.

- Full UK Driving Licence
The following would also be useful, but are not essential as full training will be provided:
- SIA Public Space Surveillance (PSS) (CCTV) licence
- First Aid qualification (with 1 days additional leave on qualification)
- Experience in a similar role
