Information Security Officer (ALSPAC) in Bristol

The Avon Longitudinal Study of Parents and Children (ALSPAC) is a world-renowned birth cohort study that has collected data from thousands of participants over more than 30 years and provides access to these data for approved researchers worldwide. We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated individual to join our team for two days a week (with some flexibility around working days) at our study centre in the Learning & Research (L&R) Building at Southmead Hospital, Bristol. At least one of these days will be office-based.

The successful candidate will work closely with the ALSPAC Information Security team and support the continued development, maintenance and improvement of ALSPAC’s Information Security Management System (ISMS), which is accredited to the internationally recognised ISO/IEC 27001 information security standard. Hybrid working is available: at least one day in the office.

What will you be doing?

• You will support the senior team in the implementation, maintenance and ongoing development of ALSPAC’s Information Security Management System (ISMS), which is certified to the internationally recognised ISO/IEC 27001 standard.
• You will be responsible for the day-to-day administration of the ISMS and supporting ALSPAC’s continued ISO/IEC 27001 certification. This will include assisting with the development and review of policies, procedures and guidance; providing advice and training to staff; scheduling and undertaking internal audits and spot checks; drafting information security reports; and supporting the annual management review of the ISMS.
• You will work closely with the Senior Information Risk Owners (SIROs) to support the annual continuing assessment and the three-year recertification audit process.
• You will also keep up to date with emerging cyber security and information governance risks relevant to ALSPAC, escalating issues to senior colleagues in a timely manner where appropriate.

You should apply if you possess the following:

• Excellent organisational, prioritisation, time-management skills and problem-solving skills.
• A broad understanding of information security principles, data protection legislation and recognised best practice, particularly the Data Protection Act 2018.
• Strong IT and computer literacy skills.
• Self-motivated and able to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Experience of drafting policies, procedures and standard operating procedures.
• Ability to remain calm and effective when managing competing priorities or responding to issues.
• Educated to degree level, or have equivalent professional or practical experience.

• Contract type: Open-ended with funding until 31/07/2029.
• Work pattern: Part-time/0.4 FTE - to be agreed with postholder.
