The predicted salary is between 40000 - 50000 £ per year.

We are seeking to appoint a lawyer/senior lawyer to join our busy and highly professional legal team practicing in complex employment matters, special educational needs, education law, civil litigation, prosecutions, information governance and elections law. The focus of this role will be on employment law. Senior lawyers will receive a market supplement of 15% for 12 months, or until a planned restructure is completed, whichever comes first. Hybrid office arrangements are available, allowing work from home and office.

Responsibilities

  • Be a qualified solicitor or barrister entitled to practice in England and Wales, or fellow of the Chartered Institute of Legal Executives with practice rights.
  • Exercise professional judgment and make all day‑to‑day operational decisions on allocated matters and cases, providing legal advice and representation to the instructing client and advising Council officers and members.
  • Influence and negotiate with contacts both internal and external to the Council, including officers at the Chief Executive level and below, elected members, Courts, Tribunals, regulatory bodies, staff, private practice solicitors and barristers, and other professionals involved in the education, employment and litigation work.
  • Act as a case holder and, where appropriate, advocate in the Employment Tribunal, providing professional legal services in relation to employment law to the Council’s Departments, and addressing matters of education and litigation law as required.
