Bradford is one of the UK’s largest metropolitan districts, a city with real momentum following a successful year as UK City of Culture.

With a new Strategic Director of Environment joining in October, the council is building a leadership team to drive improvement across its most visible front-line services.

The Assistant Director leads one of the council’s most visible portfolios, covering waste collection and disposal, street cleansing, parks, green spaces, allotments, household waste recycling centres and fleet services, with a workforce of around 500 staff.

With the national Simpler Recycling reforms underway, food waste collection recently introduced, further changes to kerbside services due from 2027 and a programme of depot consolidation ahead, this is a service with a big agenda.

We are looking for an experienced leader who is comfortable with complexity and ready to take on a portfolio that carries real scope to make a difference for Bradford’s communities.
