This position performs hydrant flows, maintenance work, light equipment operations and a variety of manual and semi-skilled tasks such as painting and mowing related to Fire Department properties.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Operate and maintain light to medium equipment in the maintenance, painting, flowing of fire hydrants and other Fire Department equipment and properties.
- Scrape, paint, remove debris around fire hydrants within the city of Aberdeen.
- Safely operate all assigned and related equipment necessary in the day-to-day maintenance of Fire Department equipment and properties.
- Perform lawn care, mowing, trimming, weed-eating, spraying, planting and general beautification on Fire Department properties.
- Perform station duties such as cleaning, vacuuming, shampooing carpets, and painting.
- Operate various power and hand tools or equipment.
- Maintain, clean and repair all equipment and tools.
- Perform heavy manual labor in picking up litter, routine cleaning and repair, loading and unloading materials.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Physical Demands / Work Environment
The work consists of heavy manual labor and inclement weather. The employee frequently lifts heavy objects, climbs ladders, uses tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity, distinguishes between shades of colour, and utilises the sense of smell. The work is performed in an office and outdoors, occasionally in cold or inclement weather. Protective devices such as masks, goggles, gloves are required.
