City Hospitals Independent Commercial Enterprises Ltd (CHoICE) is seeking a passionate, hardworking and reliable individual to join our team as a Security Officer. The role of a Security Officer is an exciting opportunity for motivated, flexible, task-focused individuals with excellent communication skills. As a Security Officer, you will work as a member of the Security Team within Sunderland Royal Hospital to assist in the protection of patients, staff and visitors. The post holder must hold a valid Security Industry Authority licence to undertake this role.

Main duties of the job include:

  • Responding to requests from wards and departments for support in handling violent/potentially violent incidents, scenes of actual or suspected crime where personal injury is involved, or a crime in progress.
  • Staffing of the security control room, which includes monitoring of CCTV, answering queries from both the public and staff, and key management.
  • Proactively patrolling the internal and external sites, securing buildings.
  • Providing information and assistance to staff, patients and visitors on security matters.
  • Assisting in the prevention of crime.
  • Responding to emergency incidents including fire.
  • General car parking duties.
  • Assisting in the vision to create a safe place to work, visit and stay.
  • Minimum weekly collection of cash boxes from payment machines with weights in excess of 20kg.

The post holder will be required to work within the well-established security team to cover weekends, unsocial hours including night duty and public holidays.

We provide a full range of Facilities Management, Procurement and Outpatient Pharmacy services. We employ staff in various functions, ranging from cleaners, porters, engineers, procurement and pharmacists.

Person Specification:

Skills and Knowledge:

  • Negotiation and calming skills to de-escalate situations.
  • Communication skills for answering phones and using two-way radios.
  • Able to work alone or as part of a team.
  • Able to use initiative in emergency situations.
  • Basic IT/keyboard skills for documenting daily logs and using CCTV systems.
  • Customer-focused, particularly towards patients and visitors.

Qualifications:

  • Basic Numeracy and Literacy education.
  • Full current UK driving licence.
  • Literacy Level 2 (equivalent to GCSE Grade C).
  • Numeracy Level 2 (equivalent to GCSE Grade C).
  • Conflict resolution / physical intervention training.
  • Security Industry Authority licence for Public Space Surveillance (CCTV).
  • Security Industry Authority door supervisor licence.

Experience:

  • Experience of conflict management, violence and aggression.
  • Working within an NHS setting.

Physical Skills:

  • Moving and handling.
  • Ability to undertake control and restraint training.
  • Ability to sit at workstations for monitoring CCTV.
  • Ability to empty cash boxes from machines.
  • Lifting and pushing of cash boxes.

This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975, and a submission for Disclosure to the Disclosure and Barring Service will be necessary to check for any previous criminal convictions.

Salary: £26,593 to £28,377 a year (pro rata for part-time).
