Role Overview
Based in Manchester, this permanent full‑time role plays a key part in supporting football decision‑making across City Football Group (CFG) through advanced data engineering and analytics solutions. Working within the Football Intelligence team, you will help build and maintain scalable, reliable and well‑governed data systems that place high‑quality insight into the hands of key football stakeholders and performance practitioners.
Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain robust data engineering solutions that support football operations and strategic decision‑making across City Football Group.
- Ensure large volumes of football data are accurately ingested, transformed and integrated into reliable systems and user‑facing solutions.
- Support pipeline development and quality assurance, as well as the productionisation of machine‑learning and statistical models.
- Embed software engineering best practice across analytics delivery, supporting consistent, reliable and high‑quality data products.
- Improve documentation, workflows and operational processes across the Football Intelligence function to create well‑governed systems.
- Collaborate with data scientists, analysts, practitioners and cross‑functional teams.
- Manage project timelines and communicate effectively with stakeholders.
Qualifications
- Multi‑year experience within data engineering or analytics engineering environments.
- Highly competent in Python, SQL Server and Databricks SQL.
- Experience working with data pipelines, workflow management tools and cloud‑based data platforms in Azure Data Factory, Databricks and Spark.
- Understanding of software engineering best practices including CI/CD and automated testing.
- Ability to manage project timelines and communicate effectively with stakeholders.
- Collaborative approach when working across technical and operational teams.
