Purpose

Established in 1986, City in the Community is Manchester City’s official charity. We support people across Manchester by empowering healthier lives through football. Our programmes place physical and mental wellbeing at their core, whilst also creating healthy futures and healthy communities.

The purpose of the Community Coach – Esports role is to lead the delivery of CITC’s Esports provision at Oldham College, engaging Level 2 and Level 3 learners through high-quality, curriculum-aligned sessions. The post holder will be responsible for planning and leading lessons, enrichment activities, and tournaments, ensuring learners are supported in their academic, personal, and social development. In addition to daytime delivery, the role includes one weekly evening session and occasional events. The Community Coach – Esports will also contribute to the growth of the programme by actively supporting recruitment activity and building strong relationships with potential learners and key stakeholders.

Accountabilities

  • Lead the planning and delivery of curriculum-aligned Esports sessions for Level 2 and 3 learners at Oldham College, ensuring they are inclusive, engaging, and in line with programme objectives.
  • Independently manage daily delivery responsibilities, including session setup, learner engagement, and end-of-session wrap-up, ensuring consistency and high standards across all lessons.
  • Design and lead enrichment opportunities, including tournaments, employer sessions, and cross-programme engagement activities that enhance the learner experience.
  • Establish strong relationships with learners, maintaining high standards of attendance, punctuality, and behaviour while promoting personal growth and progression.
  • Represent CITC at outreach and recruitment events, including schools, youth zones, careers fairs, and open evenings to promote the Esports programme.
  • Work closely with the Education Officer – Esports and Oldham College staff to align delivery with curriculum expectations and support learner success.
  • Actively support the recruitment of future learners by participating in school engagement, careers events, and community outreach activity. Work collaboratively with the Education Officer – Esports to ensure targets for learner growth are met and prospective applicants receive a positive first impression of CITC’s Esports provision.
  • Ensuring that CITC’s Safeguarding policy and procedures are embedded to the highest standard across the team. Work to ensure that safeguarding practices and principles are adhered to, ensuring our legal and moral obligations towards the framework.
  • Ensure that all CITC and CFG policies and procedures are adhered to across the team, escalating any breaches as appropriate.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • Experience delivering community-based or education-focused sessions to young people
  • Experience working in partnership with schools, colleges, or education providers
  • Understanding of inclusive and adaptable delivery practices to meet diverse learner needs
  • Experience supporting or contributing to learner recruitment and outreach activities
  • Ability to build strong relationships with young people and act as a positive role model
  • Confidence using relevant technology, gaming platforms, and digital tools for Esports delivery
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and digital communication tools (e.g. Teams, Google Drive)
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Resilient, adaptable, and solution-focused in a dynamic delivery environment
  • Understanding of working within a brand-led organisation and the responsibilities of representing a Premier League Football Club
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team as well as independently
  • Full UK Driving Licence
  • A level 1 coaching qualification in a relevant sport
  • GCSEs (or equivalent) in English, Maths, and Science Knowledge of the BTEC Esports curriculum and ability to deliver engaging, age-appropriate content
  • Experience coaching or delivering Esports within further education settings
  • Competence in streaming, video editing, and Esports-related content creation
  • Understanding of CITC’s mission and the role of Esports within its programme portfolio
  • Experience managing behaviour and supporting engagement in a youth or community setting
  • Background in youth work, mentoring, or pastoral support
